LG Chairman Stands Up For Measles–Rubella Vaccination

The Chairman of Yewa North Local Government, Dr. Olusola Akinbode, has assured residents of the council area of full government support for the ongoing Measles–Rubella vaccination campaign.

Dr. Akinbode gave the assurance during the official flag-off of the exercise at Ayetoro, the headquarters of the Local government.

Commending the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, the Ministry of Health, stakeholders and development partners particularly UNICEF, the Chairman lauded their commitment to sustaining a resilient primary healthcare system despite prevailing challenges.

He reaffirmed the present administration’s commitment to effective primary healthcare delivery, noting that the government would continue to support interventions aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of residents.

According to him, all necessary approvals for campaign support would be granted promptly to ensure the success of the intensive vaccination exercise across the local government area.

Earlier, the Primary Healthcare Coordinator of Yewa North Local Government, Mr. Olatunde Oduyemi, applauded development partners, religious leaders, community-based organisations and other stakeholders for their consistent collaboration with the Government in strengthening healthcare delivery, especially at the grassroots.

In his remarks, the consultant of the exercise, Mr. Sunday Idowu, disclosed that the campaign would cover routine immunisation for children aged 0–23 months, Measles–Rubella vaccination for children between 9 months to 14 years, as well as Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination for girls’ age 9 years across all 11 wards of the Council.

He appealed to stakeholders to leverage social media platforms and influencers to reach young people and parents, following the official flag-off of the exercise by the Chairman.

Speaking on behalf of beneficiaries, Mrs. Adesiyan Sanab and Mrs. Funmilayo Taiwo, expressed appreciation to the Government for the initiative and pledged to sensitise other nursing mothers on the importance of vaccination.
