In a statement issued on Saturday by the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the Command said the celebration is designed to honour fallen officers, appreciate serving and retired personnel, and deepen engagement with stakeholders and residents across the state.
According to the statement, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, dedicated this year’s commemoration to officers who paid the ultimate price in service to the nation, as well as to members of the public whose continued support has strengthened policing efforts nationwide.
The four-day programme of events which will commence nationwide tomorrow, Monday, March 30, will kick off in Ogun State with a medical outreach organised by the Police Medical Unit at Iwe-Iroyin, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta.
The outreach will run alongside an environmental sanitation exercise across police formations in Ogun State, undertaken in partnership with community stakeholders.
On Tuesday, March 31, the Command will hold a statewide WALKATHON aimed at promoting unity and public participation in policing.
The exercise will begin simultaneously at 6:00 a.m. from the Command Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, as well as at various Area Commands and Divisional Headquarters across the state.
Police authorities urged stakeholders and members of the public to participate in the WALKATHON as a symbolic demonstration of shared responsibility toward public safety and community development.
Activities for Wednesday, April 1, will focus on Public Sensitisation Campaigns across the state.
The initiative will address:
★ The prevention of electoral violence,
★ Discourage ballot snatching and related offences, and
★ Educate motorists on safe driving practices and adherence to traffic regulations.
The celebration will climax on Thursday, April 2, with a welfare presentation ceremony at the Command Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.
During the event, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, will present welfare cheques on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police to families of deceased officers in recognition of their sacrifices to national security.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police called on community leaders, youth and women groups, civil society stakeholders, and residents of the state to actively participate in the activities marking the occasion.
He described the National Police Day celebration as an opportunity to reinforce trust, mutual respect, and cooperation between the Nigeria Police Force and the communities they serve.
The Command reiterated its commitment to community-oriented policing, noting that sustained partnership with citizens remains essential to effective crime prevention and the promotion of peace and security across Ogun State.
