A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sango/Ado odo Local Government Area of Ogun State and Chairman, Alanlat Group of Companies, Chief Lateef Alani Gbadamosi, has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over his appointment of a new Inspector General of police (IGP).
Chief Gbadamosi described the decision as a bold and timely intervention which would help to restore discipline, professionalism and public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.
In an interview with our reporter yesterday in Abeokuta Ogun State on the change in the leadership of the police, Gbadamosi said Nigerians should expect a major transformation in security operations, adding that the newly appointed IGP has the experience and operational competence required to confront rising crime and internal lapses within the force.
He said the country needs a police chief who understands field operations and can take firm decisions at a time when insecurity, violent crimes and disputes across communities are becoming more frequent.
"I really appreciate the president for this appointment. The change came at the right time. What the police need is strong and experienced officer who understands real police work, not just administration. The new IGP is the kind of person that can bring discipline and serious action to bear on operations," he said.
He criticised what he described as past mistakes in police postings, saying that some officers were assigned to key commands without adequate operational background, a situation he said affected Crime fighting efforts, especially in major cities.
