TESCOM Moves to Address Teachers’ Protests, Sets Up Redistribution/Review Panel

The Ogun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has taken steps to address the growing discontent arising from its recent redistribution and transfer of public secondary school teachers, many of whom have expressed dissatisfaction over postings to remote locations or areas far from their families.

In response, the Commission has constituted a Redistribution and Review Panel to examine appeals from affected teachers, particularly those with genuine health challenges or other valid reasons, with a view to providing appropriate redress.

The Panel has released the schedule for appearances by teachers affected by the recent redistribution and transfer exercise.

According to a statement e-signed by the Permanent Secretary of TESCOM, Mr. Akintomiwa Osibodu, the Panel will sit at the Commission’s Headquarters, Block A, State Secretariat, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The statement indicated that appearances for teachers in Abeokuta South Local Government will hold from Tuesday, January 27 to Thursday, January 29, 2026. For other Local Governments in Egba Division — including Ifo, Owode, Ewekoro, Odeda and Abeokuta North — appearances are scheduled for Wednesday, February 4 to Thursday, February 5, 2026. Teachers from Yewa, Ijebu and Remo Divisions will be attended to on Friday, February 6, 2026.

The release further stated that the Panel will only consider cases from teachers who submitted written appeals on or before Friday, January 24, 2026, and who have fulfilled the required conditions. 

These include: a duly signed letter of appeal addressed to the Permanent Secretary; a copy of the recent posting letter; a letter of assumption of duty at the new school; valid medical reports from a government hospital (where applicable); copies of all previous posting and transfer letters with corresponding assumption of duty letters; as well as a valid means of identification.

Affected teachers were advised to attend the Panel with all relevant documents on their scheduled dates. The statement emphasized that appearances will be strictly by invitation and according to the approved schedule.

The Commission also warned that falsification of information, unruly behaviour, or any form of misconduct before the Panel will attract automatic disqualification, and such appellants may be recommended for dismissal in line with Edict No. 8 of 1991.
