Anthony Joshua has been discharged from hospital, the Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, after the road accident that claimed the lives of two of his close friends- and trainers, Lateef Ayodele and Sina Ghami.
In a joint statement by the Lagos and Ogun state governments, the boxing champion was discharged on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, after doctors at Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, confirmed he was clinically fit to continue his recovery from home.
In the statement jointly signed by Gbenga Omotoso, Lagos state commissioner for information and strategy, and Kayode Akinmade, special adviser on information and strategy in Ogun State, it was noted that the boxer was still “heavy-hearted and full of emotions” over the tragic loss of his friends.
The accident occurred on Monday, December 29, 2025, and drew widespread public concern.
Earlier on Wednesday, Joshua, accompanied by his mother, visited a funeral home in Lagos to pay his final respects as the remains of the two men were prepared for repatriation abroad for burial later that evening.
The two state governments again commiserated with the families of Ayodele and Gami, praying for the repose of their souls and for strength for their loved ones.
Governors Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State and Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State also expressed appreciation to members of the public for the show of love and sympathy following the incident.
They further thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what they described as his fatherly support throughout the process, as well as the doctors and medical personnel at Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, for their professionalism and quality of care to Joshua and others injured in the crash.
