Olowu adopts school for children with special needs as pet project ...promises to provide necessary facilities

Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba Prof. Saka Matemilola with Gov. Dapo Abiodun. 

The Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba Prof. Saka Matemilola has adopted Daniel Akintonde Model School for Children with Special Needs, Abeokuta as his pet project and has vowed to provide as much support as he could to ease learning in the school. 

Prof. Matemilola who adopted the school as one of the projects of his non governmental organisation (NGO), Olowu Hope Initiative has by his recent gestures to the school earned the commendation of the Ogun State Government for contributing towards development of education in the State.

The Commissioner in the State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, gave the commendation during the commissioning of modern male and female toilets facilities and seventy five double decker hostel bunks with one-fifty mattresses donated by Olowu Hope Initiative to Daniel Akintonde Model School for Children with Special Needs, Abeokuta. 

Appreciating kabiyesi for his special interests in children's development through education, Prof. Arigbabu, noted that no government could shoulder the responsibilities of education alone.

He noted that this was why the privileged in the society should emulate the good gesture of Oba Olowu by supporting government to achieve its free and qualitative standards of education policy for all citizens of the State.

"This special donation will linger in the minds of the learners, as it provides them with needed comfortability and convenience which will contribute to the ability to do well in their studies, because no learner can do well in an unconducive atmosphere," the Commissioner said.

In his address, the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Prof. Matemilola, said the event marked the unveiling of the first batch of his promise to uplifting the lives of the pupils in the school, assuring that the Initiative  would adopt the school and provide as much support as it could to ensure learners' period in the school was  productive and efficient.

He promised that the next phase of the Initiative would be the provision of a clinic that would be equipped with medical facilities and health care workers who would be on ground for 24 hours, saying other facilities to be provided for the school include, hygienic modern canteen, high quality hostels and many more.

Appreciating the kabiyesi and the State government for the great achievement, the Head teacher of the school, Mrs. Olubukola Idowu, noted that the event marked a significant milestone in the history of the school.
