The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential flagbearer, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar may announce Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike as his running mate shortly.
The choice of the Rivers State Governor as mate to Atiku was said to have been the handiwork of a high powered committee set up by PDP to choose whoever the cap fits from among a list.
Apart from Governor Wike, three other governors, Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta), Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom) and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu) were also said to have been given serious consideration before the choice of the panel was made.
Though information reaching us confirmed that Wike may not be aversed to accepting the slot as he had earlier been offered the vice presidential position but he was said to have pleaded for time to enable him make consultations.
Our source confirmed that Wike consulted Governor Ortom who was said to have encouraged Wike to accept the offer.
The panel that helped Atiku to make his choice of vice presidential candidate from among the lots was said to have been chaired by PDP Deputy National Chairman (North), Ambassador Umar Damagum and has other members as PDP National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature and Governors Samuel Ortom (Benue).
Other members of the panel are Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi). former governors Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Ahmed Makarfi (Kaduna), and Liyel Imoke (Cross River).
Also on the panel are Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Senator Philip Aduda (FCT), Reps Minority Leader Ndudi Elumelu and former Senate President David Mark.
